Energique’s Enervite C Defense™ is a professional-strength vitamin C supplement intended for clinical use. In addition to a 500 mg serving of non-GMO vitamin C per capsule, the formula is augmented by the inclusion of specific bioflavonoid and triterpenoid compounds, chosen to support the most important clinical applications of vitamin C: immune support, mast cell function and general antioxidant/anti-aging potential.
These supporting ingredients include quercetin and rutin, bioflavonoids found highly concentrated in citrus fruits, in addition to an innovative addition of Holy Basil (Ocimum tenuiorum) leaf extract, concentrated to provide 2.5% ursolic acid, an antioxidant compound with many research-supported anti-aging benefits and novel immune applications.
Recently, vitamin C has generated clinical interest for its emerging role in mast cell function. Vitamin C has long been known to support the immune system by quenching the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by immune activity, and a growing body of research points to this same process as instrumental to the regulation of mast cell activity. Thus, the role of Vitamin C in immune support has expanded to include modulating the cell-mediated Th2 response and the promotion of healthy histamine levels. The addition of bioflavonoids quercetin and rutin, known to support healthy histamine release, provide synergistic benefits for multiple aspects of immune system function.
Ursolic Acid is an antioxidant originally identified in apple peels, but also found relatively concentrated in the leaves of Holy Basil (Ocimum tenuiorum). Ursolic Acid has been shown to induce growth and metabolic factors in muscle normally down-regulated during atrophy, and in addition modulate numerous other cellular signaling factors, including nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB) and factors which promote insulin sensitivity, regulate liver cell apoptosis, and increase antioxidant levels in the brain. Among its most characteristic applications is the attenuation of muscle atrophy, an age-related process which not only slows metabolism but is increasingly shown to accurately predict longevity. The beneficial effects of Ursolic Acid on metabolism, muscle mass, weight loss, apoptotic signaling and antioxidant status make it an ideal complement to vitamin C for the promotion of healthy aging, and the benefits of Holy Basil as an immune-supporting adaptogen provide an additional complement to the promotion of healthy immune system function. In sum, its additional ingredients make Energique’s Enervite C Defense™ a versatile source of non-GMO ascorbic acid, providing a clinically relevant dose that can be tailored to support a variety of holistic applications.
